| Welcome to all members, parents, alumni and all those interested in learning more about the Ferndale High School Band & Colorguard. This website was designed to create a better awareness of all the activities that surround the Ferndale High School Band and Colorguard program. There is much to celebrate about the accomplishments of these hardworking students, staff and parents.
| Before I tell you about my goals for this program, I’d like to give you a little background about myself. My initial experience teaching the Ferndale High School Band and Colorguard was in the fall of 1996. I was an Assistant to Mel Hansen and an employee of the Ferndale Band Boosters. After two years at Ferndale, I took a certificated position as the band director at the newly opened Squalicum High School in Bellingham, Washington. When the band director position opened at Ferndale High School, I couldn't resist returning as I felt the program Mel Hansen had built and left was a perfect match for me.
| My goals for this program are simple. I want my students to strive to learn about music and marching through hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of quality performance. This outstanding, competitive performance group provides many opportunities for its members to personally develop and strengthen themselves in areas including leadership, teamwork, interpersonal growth, goal setting, time management, and self-discipline. A strong work ethic, commitment to the program and a positive approach to teamwork are the foundation of the Ferndale’s philosophy, which is: "Work hard, perform well, grow musically and have fun."
| It is not often that a school district supports the arts as much as the Ferndale School District does. The Ferndale community has made it quite clear that music will remain strong in our schools. It is this supportive climate that brings about the success we have seen over the years. To the community members, thank you for being behind us all these years. We look forward to many great years to come.
Stephen B. Menefee Director of Bands Ferndale High School
