Steve Menefee

Steve Menefee is currently the Director of Bands at Ferndale High School. Steve has served in this role at Ferndale High School since 1999. Before that, he was the assistant band director to Mel Hansen at Ferndale High School from 1996 to 1997 and was the Director of Bands at Squalicum High School in Bellingham, WA for the 1998 school year.

Steve earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Radford University in Radford, VA. While attending college, Steve was a four year member of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps of Bergenfield, NJ. In 1994, Steve was named the 1994 “Cadet of the Year” following his drum & bugle corps age-out season. In 1996, Steve returned to the Cadets for the 1996 season as a brass instructor. After a one year hiatus from drum corps, Steve returned to the activity in 1998 as the brass caption head for the Seattle Cascades Drum & Bugle of Shoreline, WA. Under his direction, the corps transformed from a mediocre Division III corps to a top twelve, Drum Corps International Division I corps.

Steve recently completed his master’s degree in education at the American Band College in Ashland, Oregon focusing on instrumental music and conducting. Outside his roles at Ferndale High School, Steve enjoys yard work and playing his trumpet on his church’s worship team. Steve resides in Ferndale, WA.
