History
The Ferndale Band Boosters have been an integral part of the Ferndale High School marching program. Consisting primarily of band parents, the Boosters have supported the band over the years through various fundraising activities, chaperoning trips, fitting uniforms, sewing costumes, providing meals, and being a primary source of financial support for the band program.
In the 1990’s the Boosters owned and operated a Bingo Hall, which provided a sizeable amount of funding into the band program. When the bingo business began to decline, the building was sold, and the proceeds from that sale were placed into an endowment fund. Interest earned from that endowment fund, which has just begun to provide a financial return to the Boosters, will give the Boosters a small financial nestegg for future band camp costs.
Currently the financial burden for the Ferndale marching program falls to the students and their parents. For the 2005-2006 school year, each student paid $125 in band fees. These fees cover the costs of traveling to fall marching competitions, as well as food and lodging during the August band camp before school started.
Into the Future
The Band Booster organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This allows the boosters to receive charitable donations in the form of financial gifts, as well as donations of goods and services. All donations made to the Booster organization are tax deductible. Former band alumni and community supporters are encouraged to contact anyone on the Booster board to learn more about how you can support the band. Sponsorships for student band fees are welcome.
2007 - 2008 School Year
As we begin another school year we look to create an even richer experience for students in the Ferndale Band. As we travel to competitions in Olympia, Everett and Auburn in the Fall and possibly even further in the Spring, we aim to create an environment where kids can experience the journey towards excellence. This environment can be so much richer if the students see that their support group is strong and active. There are so many ways that parents can get involved.
