| The Ferndale High School Band and Colorguard is one of Washington’s premier marching bands. They pride themselves on being recognized as a progressive and innovative organization. Ferndale has established a tradition of excellence through quality performance and diverse educational goals. The group involves more than 100 members and represents Ferndale School District #502. Ferndale High School serves the communities Custer, Ferndale and Lummi Island, Washington.

| The marching band is part of a comprehensive instrumental music education program at Ferndale High School that also includes concert band, jazz band, small ensembles, winter color guard, and pep band. It is supported by a devoted band booster organization and school administration, and taught and encouraged by an accomplished staff. In recent years the band program has toured Southern California, Washington D.C., and British Columbia, Canada.

| During the fall, generally September and October, the band marches for home football games and competes in several local field show festivals. The marching band also makes an annual appearance at the Auburn Veteran’s Day Marching Band Championships. This show features many outstanding bands from all over the Pacific Northwest. The members are very proud of their successes at these events. At the season's end the marching band concludes its performance schedule with two indoor standstill concerts and a banquet in November.

| Ferndale has accumulated hundreds of awards from parades and field show competitions. These include 1st in the AAA Division at the Auburn Veteran’s Day Marching Band Championships in Auburn, Washington for six consecutive years (1991-1996). In addition, the Winter Colorguard program have earned top honors at both regional and national competitions. In 1998, the Winter Color Guard earned 5th Place in the Scholastic A Class at the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. The marching program at Ferndale is recognized as one of Washington's elite.
